ISSUES

A STRONG, EVENHANDED AND PROGRESSIVE APPROACH TO PUBLIC SAFETY

I will bring my four decades of experience with all levels of the justice system to connect the community to the courthouse.

I will ensure the District Attorney’s Office employs restorative justice programs when appropriate, but never compromises the safety of our community when serious and violent crimes are committed.

As your District Attorney, I will:

Prescription Drugs

PROTECT THE MOST VULNERABLE MEMBERS OF SOCIETY

  • Address the epidemic of opioid addiction by prosecuting doctors who recklessly overprescribe drugs and prevent abuse by partnering with schools and parents on youth educational programs.

  • Collaborate with Napa Solano SANE SART nurses, local hospitals, our County Board of Supervisors and justice partners to increase funding for local sexual assault examinations.
  • Aggressively prosecute crimes of financial and physical abuse committed against senior citizens and obtain restitution for the victims. Additionally, I will expand outreach and education to seniors so they may protect themselves from financial scams.

  • Collaborate with the Court, the Public Defender, the Marin County Probation Department, and Community partners to support the launch of a Veterans Court in Marin County to provide services, outreach, and resources to our Veterans.

CREATE AN ACCOUNTABLE AND EFFICIENT DA’s OFFICE

  • Accountability starts at the top. To ensure that Taxpayer dollars are not misspent, I will initiate a comprehensive efficiency study of the DA's Office to assess the performance standards of all positions within the office. I will also make sure every staff position has transparent performance standards and determine what job duties currently performed by Attorneys and Inspectors, could be carried out by volunteers, law students and clerks so our Deputy District Attorneys can focus on public safety and reaching out to the community.

  • Track every incident involving gun use or possession in Marin. Often, guns seized for evidence are destroyed without testing to determine whether they have been involved in other crimes.  We must verify that guns recovered in Marin County have not been involved in other crimes.

  • Streamline and modernize search warrant procedures by using email and telephonic communication between law police officers and judges, saving overtime hours, countless reams of paper, and financial resources for District Attorney staff and our local law enforcement agencies

CONNECTING THE COMMUNITY TO THE COURTHOUSE

  • Enhance communication and collaboration between the DA’s Office, local police departments, Community leaders, and neighborhoods.

  • Continue to utilize and expand restorative justice programs and alternatives to incarceration for mentally ill, homeless, and drug addicted offenders when appropriate.
